This is the list of things people forget — collected from friends who learned each one the expensive way.
The pattern behind every forgotten item is the same: Goa feels so easygoing that packing feels optional. It is not. The sun is administrative-action strong, the sea has zero respect for electronics, and the nearest chemist is always a fifteen-minute scooter ride in the wrong direction. The maths is simple: ₹249 pouch versus a ₹30,000 phone that met one wave. It hangs around your neck, floats if dropped, and lets you take the shot mid-swim instead of waving sadly from the water. One honest note — the touchscreen feels slightly mushy through the plastic, so test it in a bucket at home before trusting it with sea-level photography.
Clip your printed photos onto fairy lights and the grimmest hostel dorm becomes the room everyone gathers in. Ten minutes of setup, instant main-character lighting. Small print: they're mood lighting, not actual lighting — you'll still need the room bulb to find your slippers.
Hostel vs resort: pack differently
The same trip needs two very different bags depending on where you sleep. Here's the honest split:
Hostel trip: definitely pack
- A padlock — lockers are 'bring your own lock' and karma steals slippers
- Quick-dry towel, because hostel towels are a rumour
- Flip-flops dedicated to the bathroom. Non-negotiable
- String lights and a power strip — instant friends in a six-bed dorm
Resort trip: happily skip
- Towels, toiletries, hairdryer — the resort's are better than yours
- The iron. Nobody in Goa history has been judged for wrinkles
- That second pair of 'nice' shoes — you will live in sandals
- Bluetooth speaker — the resort, and your neighbours, have it covered
One more note on the split: hostels reward the social packer and resorts reward the light one. If your trip mixes both — a very Goa move — pack for the hostel and let the resort days feel like an upgrade. It never works as well the other way around.

When's the best time to visit Goa?＋
November to February — sunny, breezy, everything open. Monsoon Goa (June–September) is gorgeous and cheap, but half the shacks shut and the sea is strictly for looking at, not swimming in.

North for the classic scene — beach shacks, markets, nightlife within scooter range. South for quiet sand and actual rest. First-timers usually split: three nights north, two south, zero regrets.
How much cash should I carry?＋
